Traditional Champurrado | Día de Los Muertos | Halloween

Ingredients
 

  • 33.50 oz (950 g) milk (4 cups)
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 2 oz (57 g) masa harina (1/2 cup)
  • 25.05 oz (710 g) Spring Water (3 cups)
  • 1 (227 g) piloncillo cone (8 oz)
  • 2 (176 g) abuelita chocolate tablets (6.2 oz)
  • 1 tsp (5 g) vanilla bean paste

Instructions
 

  • Add the milk and cinnamon sticks to a medium-size pot and heat over medium-high and bring to a boil.

  • In the meantime, blend the masa harina together with the spring water until smooth and combined.
    2 oz masa harina, 25.05 oz Spring Water

  • Strain the masa-water mixture into the pot with the milk and cinnamon to remove any lumps. Whisk the mixture and heat until boiling and thick.

  • Reduce the heat, add in the piloncillo cone, the abuelita chocolates, and vanilla bean paste while occasionally stirring until it is mixed in and combined.
    1 piloncillo cone, 2 abuelita chocolate tablets, 1 tsp vanilla bean paste
    • Save
  • Strain the mixture one more time through a fine-mesh strainer and serve right away. Enjoy!
